Safeguarding and Prevent
Learners are kept safe through our Safeguarding and Prevent procedures. All staff know how to respond to indicators that may suggest a learner who is a child, young person or vulnerable adult is suffering or at risk of suffering abuse, neglect or harm and are able to take the appropriate action. This includes recording and referring concerns and seeking advice and support from CLS's Designated Safeguarding Officers (DSOs) to protect learners.
Risks associated with a learner who is a child, young person or vulnerable adult offending, misusing drugs or alcohol, self-harming, going missing, being vulnerable to radicalisation or being sexually exploited are shared with relevant social care services or agencies.
Learners are protected and helped to keep themselves safe from bullying, homophobic behaviour, racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination. Any discriminatory behaviours are challenged, with help and support given. Safe use of technology and the internet is promoted and risks associated with radicalisation understood.
CLS is fully engaged with the Prevent programme and the use of the Channel referral process for assessing and managing risk. British values (e.g. democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and respect and tolerance) are promoted to learners and staff through CLS's promotional materials, programmes and training.
Effective arrangements for staff development and training are in place to ensure the protection and care of learners.
